The Garvey School admission process is designed to allow the applicant and the School to develop clear appraisals of each other. Following the initial inquiry, applicants are encouraged to spend a morning at the School. During this visit, applicants and their parents will have the opportunity to visit classes and meet with the staff. Standardized tests are not required for admission. The following are required:

  • a completed application and application fee
  • reading and writing assessment
  • official school transcript
  • two teacher recommendations (Grades 1-8 only)
  • a child interview
  • a parent interview
  • a 30 minute class visit

Once the admissions office has had the opportunity to evaluate an applicant's academic potential, special support needs and citizenship, students may be admitted.

The Garvey School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accounted or made available to the students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of our educational policies, admission policies, and other school administrative programs including faculty and staff recruitment.

School Day

Early drop-off begins at 7:00am. The School day begins at 8:15am and ends at 4:00pm. The day consists of seven academic periods, a mid-morning activity/extra help period, lunch, and the After School Program, which ends at 6:00pm.

Grade Level Organization

Classes are organized based on academic and social readiness in a traditional structure. We ensure that each child's needs are met. Since all children develop at their own pace, they are grouped specific to their learning needs and readiness, and not chronologically.
